Bass Trombone

Louis G. Bourgois III is a founding member of the Lexington Brass Band and has served as its Bass Trombonist since 1993; Principal Solo Euphonium, 1992-93; and on its Board of Directors since 1992. He is a professor of music at Kentucky State University, having joined its faculty in 1986, and teaches low brasses, music history and literature, and music education technology. He also serves as the Music Area Coordinator in the KSU Division of Fine Arts. He received his B.M.Ed. from Murray State University (1978), M.M. from the University of Louisville (1980), and D.M.A. in trombone performance and pedagogy from The Ohio State University (1986). In addition to performing with the Lexington Brass Band, he is also the bass trombonist of the DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra and Kentucky Jazz Repertory Orchestra. Outside of music he is an FCC-licensed amateur radio operator (KA4WFI) serving as a volunteer emergency communicator and National Weather Service-trained severe weather spotter; has been a licensed private pilot since 1981; and is nearing completion of his experimental/amateur-built Piper PA-11 Cub Special replica in his hangar at the Danville-Boyle County Airport, a project begun in 1998.
