Calendar
As the Lexington Brass Band begins its 20th season, we are preparing a dynamic, entertaining, exciting concert series. The band had a ‘triumph’ in Toronto this past April at the Hannaford Street Silver Band’s Festival of Brass, and we are poised for our best year ever! As a special incentive to our donors, we will be offering a free copy of the CD of our Toronto concert with Vincent DiMartino to the first twenty-five donations of $50.00 dollars or more in support of our 2011—12 concert season.
We continue to offer quality programs of wide interest performed by outstanding brass musicians and guest musicians. Our carefully timed, scripted, one-hour concerts receive high marks and praise from our audience. And we are once again a great bargain! We need your help, too, to spread the word about one of the best bargains, as well as great entertainment packages in Central Kentucky. Tickets per concert are STILL $5.00 each; a series set is $15.00 for all four concerts if purchased in advance by October 15th. Our concerts are still at 4:00 PM. They will again be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 150 East High Street, Lexington.
Concert #1: Brass Fantasia
November 6, 2011
Mozart’s unique Fantasia for Mechanical Organ, as arranged by Sir Malcolm Sargent for brass band, heads up a fascinating program that also includes a new version of Allen Vizzutti’s Fantasia for Tuba, Brass, and Percussion (rescored by our director, and featuring Dr. Skip Gray), as well as Ellington Fantasia written for the band by Dr. Richard Domek on the occasion of its Midwest performance. There will be lots of other ‘fantastic’ tunes, in addition to these great excerpts from the Duke!

Concert #2: ‘Tis the Season
December 18, 2011
Jazz violinist Zach Brock, a Lexington native, has been making quite a name for himself all across the jazz world. He returns to our subscription concert series backed up by pianist Raleigh Dailey, a great local talent. The band will play an array of holiday sounds, with both a swing and jazz orientation as well as traditional Christmas brass fare. This program will surely get you in the festive mood!

Concert #3: Tournament for Brass
February 19, 2012
Eric Ball’s three-movement Tournament for Brass will present the band with quite the technical challenge, as will excerpts from Herbert Howells’ Pageantry. Additional solo and ensemble features will also test our fine players. The competitive spirit will be enhanced by a new arrangement of John Philip Sousa’s march about baseball, The National Game, this in a new arrangement by Louis Bourgois, our bass trombonist.

Concert #4: That ‘German’ Band
April 15, 2012
We focus on music with a strong German flavor, though not just Umpah Band stuff! You’ll enjoy some fun classics like Johann Strauss’s Radestky March, and even Roll Out the Barrel! We’ll be slightly more sophisticated with two great brass pieces by Richard Strauss, including a new version of his Fanfare Prelude for the Vienna Philharmonic and a spectacular Wagner excerpt. Additionally, plans are underway for us to feature one of the world’s finest trombone soloists, Brett Baker, principal trombone of the world-famous Black Dyke Band of Yorkshire, England.
